You can join all sorts of business organizations, business groups and social sites. This is the truth even if your whole plan for earning a living is to sell affiliate products over the Internet. You already know about Twitter and Facebook.
You probably already use the bookmarking websites like StumbleUpon and Digg. You’ve probably even been hearing about the growing importance of LinkedIn in the world of online business networking. But just putting up your profile on LinkedIn isn’t enough to guarantee your success. If you want to use LinkedIn to help you build your business profile, here are some things that you can do.
One of the nicer things about LinkedIn is that you don’t have to be on the system all of the time. Unlike the other social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, you do not always need to be plotting your next system update. Sure, it is full of groups and forums in which you can start to participate. All the same, if you spend too much time in them, the other people will wonder why you’ve got so much spare time. With the LinkedIn system, you should limit your participation to under a day or so. You might even spend less time there, just so that it looks like you are busy doing other things!
There are so many different things that you can link to through your LinkedIn profile. Among other things, you are allowed to link your RSS feed and your Twitter feed. Joining the different profiles you’ve created to your LinkedIn account can save you copious amounts of time. This cuts way down on the stress and time involved in things like reporting. It definitely saves time. You can also make sure that your profile is kept up to date. Remember, though, just because things can be linked doesn’t mean that they should be linked. Only link those things that will increase the professionalism of your business.
Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites are not the same as LinkedIn. Facebook and Twitter users are far more forgiving of every day chatter and chit-chat; in fact they tend to encourage it. But LinkedIn isn’t meant to be an all around social network. LinkedIn is a professional network made for making business contacts. So, unless you’re other social media accounts are strictly about business as well, you may want to keep them separate. Use the system as it is meant to be used and act professionally at all times when you are using the site. You’ll be able to build up a solid reputation in this manner.
