This blog is part of a series by Sarah Berry called “I need a job”
You know it is time for a job change if you feel miserable, de-motivated or unhappy at work. You may even just feel that you no longer get on with the people that you work with. It may be that there isn’t actually anything wrong with your job but that you just feel that it no longer gives you the same spark or sense of excitement as it did before. The fact is, if going to work has become an effort, a chore or something that you dread then you are ready for a job change.
From Thrills to Chills: Decoding the Highs and Lows of Emotions in Your Career
It is about picking up on the signs that you need to change job and acting upon them quickly so that you can make a positive career change. Make a pact with yourself that you are going to do something about your situation and get in touch with your strengths, capabilities and career desires. If you have been filling your time at work with your current employer, it is likely that you have also put your career dreams and aspirations on hold.
Until you have decided what you want to do and who you would like to work for, you need to spend some time getting back in touch with your career dreams again. Make a list of all the things that you have stopped doing due to your busyness with your current job. Put everything on your list including friends that you have lost contact with, to starting that new hobby or learning that new skill. Notice how your energy starts to soar when you think about all the wonderful things that you would like to be doing. Agree that you are never going to fall into a boring work-life routine again.
Next, you need to make a list of all the things that you want to be doing in your professional life. Really extend yourself and write down at least 3 things that push you out of your comfort zone. Agree that you are going to allow yourself to go beyond your current income, boundaries and opportunities. Allow yourself to be who you are and to do the things that will make you shine. It is OK for you to do the things that you want to do and to have the things that you desire. Reach out to people who can help you to transform your work life and make your dreams become a reality.
